PHOTOS: Local 727 Members Celebrate 3rd Anniversary of Coca-Cola Strike at Union Party

| December 7, 2018

Teamsters Local 727 hosted parties at Great Lakes Coca-Cola Distribution facilities in Niles and Alsip this past Wednesday, December 5th, to celebrate the third anniversary of the Coca-Cola Unfair Labor Practice strike.

In December 2015, Coca-Cola Refreshments’ unreasonable actions and bad faith bargaining forced more than 300 workers to the ULP strike line for 28 days.  Despite the bitter cold weather, the unity of Local 727’s Coca-Cola (now GLCCD) members never wavered.

After nearly a month on the ULP strike line, Local 727 members’ perseverance ultimately resulted in the ratification of a three-year collective bargaining agreement which included annual wage increases, full retroactivity, and reduced health care premiums.

“The 2015 Coke strike is a testament to the strength of our Union and a reminder of all we can accomplish when we stand united.  These annual anniversary parties are a celebration of our Teamster solidarity,” explained John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727.

The collective bargaining agreements covering all GLCCD members, as well as former CCR workers, are set to expire on April 30, 2019.  Members are encouraged to turn their demand sheets into the Union as soon as possible.

Members with questions should contact Business Representative Caleen Carter-Patton at (847) 696-7500 or [email protected].

Nothing in this article should be read as the union’s waiver of any legal argument, position or additional grievance. The union does not forfeit its right to make any and all supplemental arguments.
