PHOTOS: Funeral Members Earn C.E. Credits at Local 727’s Biannual Seminar

A record-setting 80 funeral directors and embalmers attended Teamsters Local 727’s biannual continuing education seminar this past Wednesday, December 12th.  Free to Local 727 members in good standing, the six-hour seminar is held twice each year in the Union meeting hall in Park Ridge and offers funeral industry professionals the opportunity to earn up to six C.E. hours.

This year’s winter seminar featured highly-trained professionals speaking on a range of topics, including:

  • 12 – 1 p.m.: “Sodium Azide,” presented by Gale Bednar-Keefe
  • 1 – 2 p.m.: “The Blow Fly: Small things matter,” presented by Gale Bednar-Keefe
  • 2 – 3 p.m.: “Embalming Techniques,” presented by Tony DiCanio
  • 3 – 4 p.m.: “Preventing Injuries,” presented by Dr. Jeffrey Smith
  • 4 – 5 p.m.: “Federal Trade Commission Funeral Rules,” presented by William Tasch and Qi Niu of Illinois Advocates
  • 5 – 6 p.m.: “Collections Procedures,” presented by Cara Anthony of Illinois Advocates

“Local 727 takes great pride in our ability to provide our funeral members with access to free continuing education classes,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727.  “We are thrilled to connect our members with speakers whose expertise on new subjects may help them to grow in their professions and better serve families in our communities.”

The Union will hold its next CE seminar this spring.  Members are encouraged to share their ideas for topics with their Local 727 business representatives and reach out to the Union if they are interested in becoming a speaker.
