Local 727 Opens Negotiations for First CBA Covering Reyes Fleet Mechanics with Comprehensive Contract Proposal
Teamsters Local 727 and Reyes Fleet Management, a subsidiary of Reyes Holdings, LLC, opened negotiations last week for the first collective bargaining agreement covering newly organized mechanics.
The Union bargaining committee kicked-off negotiations by presenting Reyes with a complete and comprehensive contract proposal. Local 727’s proposal includes a streamlined grievance and arbitration procedure, substantial wage increases, and the inclusion of Reyes mechanics in the Teamsters Local 727 Health and Welfare Fund.
Local 727 made it clear to Reyes representatives that health care improvements are a top priority for workers and there are many health care issues that must be discussed in upcoming bargaining sessions.
Reyes also had the opportunity to present the Union bargaining committee with its own initial proposals; however, the Company’s proposals only touched upon non-economic matters.
The Local 727 bargaining committee scored its first victory of these negotiations when it successfully secured a tentative agreement from Reyes for an efficient, strong grievance and arbitration procedure as well as a tentative agreement that guarantees the Union access to Reyes’ facilities.
“There are many challenging issues left to tackle, but we’re off to a good start,” said Caleen Carter-Patton, Local 727 lead business agent for Reyes mechanics. “With a strong grievance procedure in place, Local 727 will have the ability to enforce every aspect of the CBA. We will be able to protect and preserve the rights of our new Reyes members.”
“We’re also pleased that Reyes representatives’ have tentatively agreed to giving the Union access to our members’ workplace,” added Carter-Patton. “We believe this is a sign of Reyes’ willingness to work with the Union to reach a fair agreement for these hardworking members. The Union bargaining committee looks forward to continuing the bargaining process and to the successful securing of a strong first contract for Reyes mechanics.”
Local 727 and Reyes are currently scheduled to resume negotiations on Wednesday, July 31. The Union will continue to update members as bargaining proceeds.
