Union Secures Five Months of Back-Pay for First Transit DuPage Cadet Trainers

| February 28, 2018

Teamsters Local 727 recently settled a grievance with First Transit DuPage in which cadet trainers who performed training from March 1 – July 31, 2017 will receive five months of back-pay.

In March 2017, Local 727 filed a grievance because the Company violated past practices by eliminating the premium paid to employees who performed cadet training. As a result of the Union’s efforts, all cadet trainers will be paid $0.75 per hour for the hours spent performing cadet training between March 1, 2017 and July 31, 2017.

“This is a big win for our members,” said John Coli Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “No company can unilaterally eliminate a training premium without negotiating with the Union first. The Union is proud to fight for the pay these hardworking members have earned and deserve.”

Since the grievance was initially filed, Local 727 has negotiated a new three-year contract with First Transit DuPage that explicitly guarantees drivers are paid a premium for all hours worked while performing cadet training.
