Local 727 Hosts Spring Funeral Industry CE
On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, Teamsters Local 727 hosted the Spring continuing education seminar for Local 727 Funeral Directors and Embalmers. Due to the pandemic, this was the second time the CE seminar was hosted virtually via Zoom. Although the virtual CEs have been a success, we are hopeful that we will be able to host the Fall seminar in-person.
Every two years, Illinois Funeral Director Embalmers are required to complete twenty-four hours of continuing education credits to maintain their licenses; the most recent 2-year period concluded on May 31, 2021. Local 727 hosted the CE seminar in late May to assist Local 727 FDEs who still needed credits.
Kicking off the seminar was Gail Bednar-Keefe from the Medical Examiner’s Office, who presented three hours of embalming credits. Her topics included one hour on “Death and Decay” as well as two hours on “Opioid Deaths.” The second half of the day was all directing credits.
Local 727 was also able to book Susan Jensen, a representative from FEMA, to discuss the current death benefit being paid out for deaths related to Covid-19. Review the FEMA Coronavirus (Covid-19) Funeral Assistance fact sheet here. Susan also shared with the group that she was a Teamster at an earlier point in her career, and she was excited to share the ways in which FEMA is currently helping American families. To conclude the seminar, CTM attorney Jon Magna gave presentations on Labor and Employment Law and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training.Local 727 will follow the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations for guidance on whether future CE sessions will be remote. If you have any questions, please contact your Business Representatives Zach Frankenbach or Nicholas Micaletti @ 847-696-7500.
