FDSA Still Wants Wage Freeze and Has Yet to Agree on Fair Solution to Local 727 Member Benefits

| June 20, 2017

Teamsters Local 727 and Funeral Directors Service Association of Greater Chicago (FDSA) engaged in a third round of negotiations for a new contract last week. While the union and FDSA came to agreement on several minor issues, FDSA management still insists on a wage freeze for the entire term of the contract. The owners have also yet to agree on a fair solution to member benefits.

“We’ve made some progress in our talks, but the union will never agree to any wage freeze,” said John Coli, Jr., President of Local 727. “We will fight for as long as it takes until our members get a fair contract, one that takes into account their hard work and dedication.”

Movement was made on the overall issue of benefits, however, the owners have yet to agree to a proposal that would both prevent a pay cut and still adequately fund members’ benefits.

The talks concluded with the union making proposals to FDSA management. The union awaits management’s response at the next bargaining session scheduled for Wednesday, June 21.
