Recently Osco unilaterally decided to reduce pharmacy operational hours at four 24-hour pharmacy locations. The reduction in hours resulted in the transfer of several long-term overnight pharmacists from their stores to the day time float pool. In an attempt to work through this issue, Teamsters Local 727 demanded bargaining and proposed that Osco seek volunteers from the pool of current overnight pharmacists instead of automatically transferring long-term employees. Osco dismissed the Union’s proposal for compromise and instead refused to send an email seeking volunteers.
Teamsters Local 727 is still fighting against CVS management’s wrongful denial of baby bonding time. Earlier this year, three CVS members were promised time off for baby bonding by CVS management as part of the company’s policy. Management then rescinded its promises, saying the pharmacists were not eligible because they are union members.
Osco members overwhelmingly voted to ratify the company’s revised three-year contract offer, which includes retroactive raises, frozen health care premiums and a guaranteed 401(k) match for more than 500 pharmacists.
After three weeks of ignoring the union, CVS management has finally responded to Teamsters Local 727’s request to enter federal mediation. The first mediation meeting is scheduled for Sept. 22.
The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee and Osco management reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract on July 28. The contract now goes to a member vote, which again will be conducted via mail ballot.
