Unions and Producers Announce Safety Protocols for Film Industry
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, along with other Film and Television Industry unions including the DGA, SAG-AFTRA, IATSE and Basic Crafts, recently announced an agreement with the major studios (under the umbrella group AMPTP) which will allow the industry to safely reopen during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as well as provide sick leave and quarantine pay. Based on the months-long development of science-based protocols specific to the film and television work environment, the agreement is meant to minimize the risk of transmission and reduce added uncertainty during this unprecedented time.
Key provisions of the agreement include:
- Mandatory Testing Regimens both prior to and during employment
- Implementation of a “Zone System” in the production environment
- Dedicated COVID-19 compliance supervisor
- 10 days of COVID-19 sick leave
- Guaranteed quarantine pay if employee must isolate at the request of the employer
With these provisions in place, members who work in the Film and Television Industry can return to work at a minimized risk to themselves, their families, and our community.
