Vitalant Shows Their Appreciation to Teamsters Local 727 Members

| September 14, 2020

On September 3rd, Teamsters Local 727 signed an agreement with Vitalant that will give all eligible Distribution and Mobile members a monetary bonus on their September 18 paychecks. In a letter to employees, President and CEO Dave Green thanked the hardworking employees for the loyalty that they have shown during 2020 to the work, the donors, and to each other. Employees that have been with the Company since at least December 31, 2019, will receive a $750 bonus, while employees who started working with the Company on January 1, 2020 or later will receive a prorated amount based on the number of full months they have worked for Vitalant – but will receive no less than $375.

Since taking over operations from Lifesource in September 2018, Vitalant seems to approach Union relations in a manner that is more beneficial to its employees – perhaps they learned from the missteps of their predecessor. So far during 2020, due to the diligence of the Union, the Company agreed to keep every MUA working at least one shift per week during the early days of the pandemic and later provided MUAs with the opportunity to work at one of the 20 Chicagoland donor centers to supplement hours lost due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“The Union is pleased that Vitalant has not attempted to repeat the anti-union tactics of their predecessor and instead seems to actually value their front-line essential employees. Local 727 could not be prouder of these hardworking members as they continue to perform this lifesaving work for our community,” said John Coli Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727.

In related news, Vitalant has also informed the Union that they will reinstate the company match to the 401(k)-retirement plan, effective September 27, 2020.

Nothing in this article should be read as the union’s waiver of any legal argument, position or grievance(s), or as a waiver of any rights, arguments, or defenses under any contract, collective bargaining agreement, or applicable law. The union does not forfeit its right to make any and all supplemental arguments.
