[Chicago, Illinois] Teamsters Local 727 announces the filing of a class action lawsuit against WeDriveU over the Company’s ongoing violations of the Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick Leave Ordinance.
Throughout contract negotiations, the Union consistently raised the issue directly to the Company of their failure to provide mandated paid time off at the Company’s commercial passenger shuttle location located in the Kinzie Industrial Corridor in the city’s Near West Side. Despite multiple efforts to engage with the Company to ensure compliance, the Company has refused to do right by their hardworking employees and dedicated union members. As a result, the Union has taken necessary legal action.
The lawsuit emphasizes the Company’s illegal practice of neglecting mandated paid leave provisions. These actions not only violate municipal and statutory law but also undermine union members’ rights and economic security.
The Union strongly urges all members at CDT/WeDriveU to take collective action by signing on to the class action lawsuit, filing individual complaints with the Chicago Office of Labor Standards, notifying their city, state and county elected officials of this important issue.
“This kind of corporate behavior is unacceptable,” said Caleen Carter-Patton, President of Teamsters Local 727. “We will continue fighting to protect our members’ rights, ensure that the law is enforced, and fight for a fair contract the members deserve. We call on the clients of WeDriveU, specifically Northwestern University and all stakeholders, to hold WeDriveU accountable for their illegal activities and willingness to blatantly disregard labor law.”
The Union remains committed to defending workers’ rights and ensuring compliance with all applicable employment laws. The ongoing legal action aims to rectify these violations, seek just compensation, and secure fair and lawful treatment for all affected employees.
