Union and MV Chicago 135 Reach Tentative Agreement on Multiple Key Issues
The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee reached tentative agreements with MV Transportation Chicago, Division 135 on multiple contract provisions as negotiations continued on May 29th, May 30th, and May 31st.
The Union and Company have tentatively agreed to a new lunch break policy, which will add time to drivers’ routes to account for the additional time needed to traverse trouble areas (downtown, rural, etc.) before a lunch break can be taken.
Local 727 was also able to secure a tentative agreement that improves bidding language, such that employees with a start time between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. will not have their actual start times changed and will not be required to call the “driver line.” Additionally, it has been agreed upon that a driver’s start and/or end time, with “end time” being the time at which a driver returns to base, cannot be changed by more than an hour without the consent of the driver.
A tentative agreement was reached that will require the Company offer employees “related alternative work,” for the same or greater rate of pay, in the event a member is temporarily taken out of service for investigation. Should the investigation fail to substantiate a client’s concerns, the employee will be made whole for all time lost.
Finally, Local 727 has obtained a tentative agreement that ensures the Company will commit to properly training employees on handling difficult and abusive passengers.
“We were able to make true progress and reach agreements on issues that really matter to our members,” said John Coli Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “With many of the non-economic issues settled, the Union Bargaining Committee has laid a solid foundation for the economic negotiations ahead.”
All Union economic proposals remain outstanding. Some of these proposals include wages, PTO, vacation, and health benefits. Discussions on these topics will proceed on June 19 and June 20, 2018.
