Steward Spotlight: Jose Delgado of Dr. Pepper

| November 21, 2017

Eleven-year Dr. Pepper employee and Teamsters Local 727 steward Jose Delgado leads by example. Whether it’s working hard to get the product out to the customer on time, speaking at a Can the Tax rally or helping out on the strike line at Coke, Delgado takes pride in getting the job done and done well.

“I like to help out any way I can,” said Delgado. “I believe I got my strong work ethic from my mother, who, as a Mexican immigrant, never learned how to read or write English and as a result has always had to work very hard.”

Delgado’s work ethic hasn’t gone unnoticed. His colleagues at Dr. Pepper, along with his Local 727 business agent as well as Local 727 leadership have all been impressed with Delgado’s commitment and dedication to his job and willingness to help others. His leadership and dedication are why he was appointed steward two years ago and most recently appointed as a Trustee on Local 727’s Executive Board.

As part of his Trustee responsibilities, Delgado is going to help start a new Youth Committee. The Committee’s goal will be to educate and empower young workers to get involved in the Union and in the labor movement in general.

“The Executive Board’s decision to appoint Jose to Trustee was an easy one,” said John Coli Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “He’s got outstanding character and a generous spirit, the very qualities that make him a successful worker also make him a benefit to the Board.”

In his spare time, Delgado likes to follow Chicago’s sports teams, especially the Cubs. “I grew up on the North Side, so rooting for the Cubs comes naturally to me,” he said.
