New Third Shift Creates Jobs, Better Working Conditions for Pepsi Members
11 New Members Set to Begin Nov. 1 at Chicago Warehouse
The addition of a third shift at the PepsiCo warehouse in Chicago’s Canaryville neighborhood means more union jobs and better working conditions for the location’s Teamsters Local 727 members.
Starting Nov. 1, seven new third-shift production department machine operators and four additional workers will be on the job, along with the nearly 150 members already working at the warehouse, which is located at 650 W. 51st St. in Chicago.
“It’s always terrific when we can add more good-paying, strong union jobs,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727. “But this new shift also will improve the lives and working conditions of all of our members in the warehouse by lightening workloads, decreasing mandatory overtime and allowing for more cross training opportunities. It also will enable the plant to fulfill more production requests, which in turn strengthens job security for our members.”
Teamsters Local 727 represents nearly 2,000 beverage industry workers, including about 600 PepsiCo workers at locations throughout the Chicago area.
