Local 727 Stands in Solidarity with UIC GEO Graduate and Teaching Assistants as they Prepare to Strike
Teamsters Local 727 is proud to stand in solidarity with the graduate and teaching assistants of the University of Illinois Chicago Graduate Employees Organization (UIC GEO) Local 6297 as they prepare to strike.
According to recent postings from UIC GEO, 1,500 graduate assistants and teaching assistants will initiate a strike on Tuesday, March 19th, against the administration of the University of Illinois Chicago after more than a year of negotiations have failed to produce a fair collective bargaining agreement.
To assist the UIC grad workers in their fight for fairness, Local 727 has donated $5,000 to the UIC GEO Local 6297 strike fund.
“Local 727 is proud to support our union Brothers and Sisters as they fight for livable wages, academic fee waivers, and transparency,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “These workers are an integral part of the UIC institution, they deserve to be treated fairly and with respect.”
