Local 727 Files Petition on Behalf of MV VA Paratransit Workers for Representation Election

| May 15, 2019

On Friday, April 26, Teamsters Local 727 filed a petition for a representation election with the National Labor Relations Board after an overwhelming majority of MV Transportation, Inc. 283 VA Division paratransit drivers expressed interest in being represented by Local 727.

The group of approximately 40 drivers will be the second MV unit this spring to have the opportunity to vote in a secret ballot election and select Local 727 as their sole collective bargaining representative.  Voting is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the MV Conference Room.

“Every day veterans in our community depend on these dedicated MV 283 drivers to safely transport them across Chicagoland.  It’s long past time the hard work of these men and women is recognized,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727.  “Local 727 hopes all MV 283 drivers will vote ‘Yes’ in favor of Local 727 representation and will join the more than 1,300 current paratransit industry members of Local 727 as we demand fair pay, strong benefits, and respect for all workers.”

Local 727 has worked tirelessly for more than a decade to organize Chicago’s paratransit workers and elevate and transform the region’s transportation industry standards.  The Union currently represents hundreds of drivers at MV Transportation, First Transit, Ride Right, and Cook DuPage Transportation locations throughout the Chicago area.
