Local 727 and CDT Open Contract Negotiations on a Positive Note
The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee opened negotiations Friday, September 7th, for a new collective bargaining agreement covering drivers, porters, dispatchers, recon, and customer service representatives of Cook DuPage Transportation, Inc., a subsidiary of National Express.
The Union presented the Company with a complete contract proposal based on contract demands collected from hundreds of CDT members over the past several weeks. Some of the Union’s top proposals include:
4 and Go’s
- Eliminating 4 and Go’s. Employees who are called to work would receive a guaranteed eight (8) hours of pay (or a guaranteed ten (10) hours of pay if the employee is scheduled to work a ten (10) hour shift).
Driver Safety
- Drivers should not be required to transport passengers who are abusive or refuse to wear safety restraints.
- Each vehicle should have a barrier separating drivers and passengers.
Vehicle Cleanliness
- Vehicles would be required to be clean and free from any infestation.
Discipline
- Separate disciplinary tracks should be maintained for absences, tardiness, and job performance.
- Retraining forms are not discipline and should not be used as a basis for discipline.
Uniforms
- CDT should provide employees with no fewer than five (5) uniforms, as well as a cap, safety vest, and work shoes for drivers.
- Employees should be given the option to wear a darker color uniform.
Along with the above proposals, Local 727 requested CDT provide the Union with information regarding National Express’ healthcare benefits and 401k offerings.
CDT representatives also had an opportunity to present the Union with the Company’s own set of contract proposals at today’s bargaining session. All proposals will be discussed when the Local 727 Bargaining Committee and CDT reconvene negotiations on Monday, September 24th at 9 A.M..
“Today was a productive kickoff to negotiations,” said Local 727 Secretary-Treasurer John Coli, Jr. “The Union is looking forward to continuing bargaining and to obtaining the best possible contract for CDT members.”
