The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee opened the last day of negotiations with Osco management Friday by reiterating pharmacists’ core non-economic demands: tech hours/overlap, coverage, part-timers’ benefits, job postings and floaters’ geographic restrictions.
Teamsters Local 727 representatives are preparing to file the necessary paperwork with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters to approve strike benefits for Osco pharmacists in the event of a labor dispute.
At 8:37 p.m. Wednesday night — in a completely unexpected and unsolicited move —Osco management sent the union a contract extension proposal. The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee and Osco management have never once discussed a contract extension at the bargaining table.
The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee opened contract negotiations April 27 by urging Osco management to work with the union to reach a fair agreement. “We need to change the dynamic of our ongoing partnership,” said John T. Coli, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “Over and over, we have expressed what our six core issues are, and if we can see movement on those issues, we can create a good relationship going forward.”
Osco management opened contract negotiations on April 12 by stating its goal was to show how much they care about pharmacists, not only during negotiations but “on a daily basis, where it really counts.” However, since then, the company’s actions have done nothing but demonstrate the exact opposite.
