Chicago Symphony Orchestra Musicians Ratify New Contract after a Seven Week Strike
On Saturday, April 27, after 7 weeks on the strike line, union musicians of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra successfully ratified a new collective bargaining agreement. According to a recent Chicago Tribune article shared by CSO musicians, these Chicago Federation of Musicians members’ new 5-year contract settles the two primary issues—wages and pension changes—over which the musicians initiated their strike.
“Congratulations to our union Brothers and Sisters on their strike victory,” stated John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “Local 727 is proud to have walked in solidarity alongside CSO musicians on the picket line as they fought for fair wages, a secure retirement, and respect from their employer. Whenever our fellow union members need a helping hand, Local 727 will be there ready for any fight.”
In March, Secretary-Treasurer Coli joined fellow Chicago labor union leaders at a rally supporting the striking CSO musicians. The rally and Secretary-Treasurer Coli’s speech were featured on a Fox 32 News broadcast, which can be viewed below.
