Local 727 Stands in Solidarity with Chicago Federation of Musicians as they Initiate a Strike Against the Chicago Symphony Orchestra
According to a recent press release from the Chicago Federation of Musicians, 100 union musicians initiated a strike against the Chicago Symphony Orchestra yesterday, March 11th, after the parties were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract. The musicians are protesting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s proposals to drastically reduce pension benefits.
“Local 727 is proud to stand in solidarity with our union Brothers and Sisters as they pursue a fair contract,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “Our Union has seen, time and time again, the power that comes from presenting a united front. We will always stand behind fellow union members when their hard work is disrespected.”
Yesterday, Secretary-Treasurer Coli wrote and mailed a letter of support to President Terryl Jares and the striking members of the Chicago Federation of Musicians.
“The support of fellow union workers, our local communities, and elected representatives often goes a long way in raising morale and strengthening the voices of our striking members,” wrote Secretary-Treasurer Coli. “We are proud to extend our support and stand now with our CFM Brothers and Sisters as they pursue their own fight for dignity and fairness.”
