Local 727 and Edward Hotel Ratify New Contract for Shuttle Bus Drivers
Largest Wage Increases in Bargaining Unit’s History
The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee and the Edward Hotel ratified a new three-year collective bargaining agreement for the hotel’s shuttle drivers. Among the highlights of the new contract are wage increases of 3% in years one and two, and 3.5% in year three. Also, all current employees who were earning below the minimum classification wage rate shall now have their wage rate increased to the new contract minimum rates.
Additionally, the new contract maintains Local 727’s health insurance, pension and legal and educational benefits. It also contains new discipline and discharge language that includes a 12-month roll-off period for disciplinary action. Further, the contract provides a $500 one-time ratification bonus for current full-time drivers and a $250 one-time ratification bonus for part-time drivers.
“I want to thank the Union bargaining team for their dedication and hard work in reaching this agreement,” said John Coli Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “Our bargaining team secured the largest wage increases in the history of the bargaining unit, and the increases needed to maintain a healthy overall benefit funds package for our members.”
The contract also includes a Letter of Understanding regarding commercial vehicles, which prevents Edward Hotel from unilaterally setting a pay rate below what drivers should earn for driving a bus or other commercial vehicle that requires additional licensing or certification. Instead, if Edward Hotel is going to move drivers from vans into commercial vehicles, then it first must meet and negotiate with the Union over the wage increase for those drivers.
The three-year term extends from January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2020.
