Funeral directors and embalmers attended the Teamsters Local 727 continuing education seminar on Wednesday, June 13th at the Union meeting hall in Park Ridge.

Local 727 hosts the six-hour seminar, which is free to members in good standing, twice each year.  Those funeral industry members in attendance have the opportunity to earn up to six CE hours covering both funeral directing and embalming credits.

“The Union has a long history of dedication to education,” said John Coli Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727.  “From the Educational Assistance Fund to our biannual CE Seminars, Local 727 is committed to helping our members advance their knowledge.”

The seminar featured a variety of expert speakers and topics including:

  • 12 – 1 p.m.: “Navigating the Preparation Room and Restoration Using ‘MacGyver’ Techniques,” presented by Mark Rizzo
  • 1 – 2 p.m.: “Death and Decay,” presented by Gale Bednar-Keefe
  • 2 – 3 p.m.: “Diseases of the Skin,” presented by Gale Bednar-Keefe

  • 4 – 5 p.m.: “Airbrushing Tips and Tricks,” presented by Sean Sweetman
  • 5 – 6 p.m.: “Green Burial,” presented by Steven Dawson

“We aim to include new and interesting subjects that are relevant to our members in order to help them continue to grow in their professions,” Coli said.

The Union will hold another free CE seminar this fall.  Members are encouraged to share their ideas for topics with their Local 727 business representatives.
