Chicago-Area Coca-Cola Refreshments Workers to Unite at Rally

Labor Leaders, Supporters to Join Striking Workers at Dec. 14 Event

(Niles, Ill.) — Hundreds of Coca-Cola Refreshments workers will rally in solidarity and in continued support of their unfair labor practice strike on Monday, Dec. 14.

More than 300 Teamsters Local 727-represented Coca-Cola Refreshments workers initiated an unfair labor practice strike Dec. 3 after the beverage industry behemoth continually violated federal labor laws by intimidating workers, circumventing the union and engaging in overall bad faith bargaining during negotiations for a new contract.

The rally will feature guest speakers, including labor leaders and several longtime Coca-Cola Refreshments employees. Union members and supporters from across Chicago, Illinois and northwest Indiana also will be in attendance to stand united with the striking workers.

All participants and supporters are encouraged to wear union apparel, including shirts, hats, pins and buttons to this important rally. Free parking is available in the abandoned Jinny Beauty Supply parking lot, 7555 N. Caldwell Ave., Niles, IL 60714.

Teamsters Local 727 and the company on Dec. 8 reached agreement to enter federal mediation at the bargaining table. The first mediation meeting is scheduled for Dec. 14.

Teamsters Local 727, an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, represents more than 9,000 hardworking men and women throughout the Chicago area, including more than 2,000 beverage industry workers.
