Local 727 Members Encouraged to Attend March 31 Fundraiser at Brookfield Zoo

Teamsters Local 727’s Chicago Zoological Society members at Brookfield Zoo continue to do their part to protect grizzly bears and rehabilitate orphaned and injured wildlife through an annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser.

The Brookfield Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) will hold its 10th annual Spaghetti Dinner benefitting the Vital Ground Foundation and the Illinois Raptor Center from 4-8 p.m. on March 31 at the Brookfield Zoo Discovery Center.

“The volunteer conservation work our members do on top of their regular jobs is really remarkable,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727. “They’re helping make the world a better place, and we could not be more proud to support them.”

The Vital Ground Foundation protects and preserves key parcels of land in the north central United States that serve as migration corridors or buffer zones to protect grizzly bears and other wildlife from human encroachment and conflict. The Illinois Raptor Center rehabilitates orphaned and injured wildlife for their return to the wild; the extension of wildlife and environmental education; protects threatened endangered species through education and rehabilitation; and promotes humane and responsible treatment of animals.

The 10th Annual Spaghetti Dinner will feature a menu of pasta, bread, salad and desserts, along with educational displays, music, raffles, auctions, costumed characters and a special appearance by Svengoolie. Beer and wine also will be available for purchase.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 2-12. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by visiting brookfieldaazk.org. Admission and/or parking for the zoo are free at the South Gate after 3:30 p.m.
