At October Meeting, Secretary-Treasurer Coli Announces New Parking Agreement and Pension Increases for Participants in the 727 Pension Fund

| November 2, 2021

Secretary-Treasurer John Coli, Jr. updated Local 727 membership on contracts, grievances, arbitrations, and other union business during a meeting held outside the Union Hall on October 31, 2021. Membership and staff were encouraged to wear costumes to the meeting, and bags of candy and caramel apples were distributed to the children of members in celebration of Halloween.

Secretary-Treasurer Coli announced that Local 727 completed negotiations for a new five-year Master Parking Agreement, which includes significant wage increases, addition of Juneteenth as a contractual holiday, premiums for receiving the COVID-19 vaccination, a cap on the amount of supervisors parking companies may appoint, an extended recall period, and a process in which members can protest incorrect seniority dates.

Another meeting highlight was the announcement of significant improvements to the Local 727 Pension Fund following the Board of Trustees’ decision to increase pension accrual rates for those who are currently working. Parking participants’ contributions will increase from $55.00 to $65.00 per pension credit – an almost 20% increase. Participants in the Funeral Plan will see their credits increase from $110 to $120 with Chicago Tribune Drivers seeing a comparable increase in benefits as well.

Finally, Bill Coli, longtime Fund Manager at the Local 727 Benefits Fund Office and Recording Secretary of Local 727’s Executive Board, announced his plans to officially retire at the end of this year. We thank him for his years of service and will definitely miss his reading of the minutes during the monthly membership meetings. Caleen Carter-Patton, Local 727 Business Agent, will replace Bill as Recording Secretary on the e-board.

Local 727 would also like to thank longtime Jewel-Osco Pharmacist and 727 member, Laura Lucafo, for taking time out of her day to administer COVID-19 boosters and flu vaccinations to interested members during the meeting.

The next general membership meeting will be held via Zoom on Sunday, November 21, 2021. Members will receive an email which explains how to join the November meeting.
