Union Prepares to Fight Back Against GLCDD and Has Demanded Arbitration of 13 Grievances that are Under Investigation
Teamsters Local 727 has begun the new year with 13 arbitrations pending against Great Lakes Coca-Cola Distribution, Inc., which the Union are actively investigating. Among these are TEN grievances over unjust terminations of Union members and an additional grievance over an unjust discipline of a member.
Additionally, Local 727 has also demanded arbitration over a grievance related to GLCCD’s attempt to change attendance and scheduling rules, pending further investigation. The Union initially filed unfair labor practice charges with Region 13 of the National Labor Relations Board over these issues; however, the NLRB deferred the issues to arbitration.
Local 727 has also requested that the Company agree to expedite arbitration over a grievance concerning holiday pay. In July 2019, GLCCD management lied to members and falsely claimed that employees who take a sick day the day before or following a holiday are not eligible for holiday pay. The Company’s assertion contradicts the CBA, which states that an employee who misses work the day before or directly following a holiday due to an excused absence, such as a sick day, are still to receive holiday pay.
“Local 727 will not stop fighting to hold GLCCD, or any other employer, accountable to the CBA and federal law,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “Thank you to our members for their patience as the Union continues to investigate these issues. So long as we remain united and determined, GLCCD will be held to answer for its misdeeds.”
