Teamster Members: Apply Now for Women’s Committee Scholarships
Five $1,000 Awards Will Be Given to Teamsters Continuing Their Education
The Teamsters Joint Council 25 Women’s Committee scholarship program is aimed at assisting Teamsters who are continuing their education. The Women’s Committee will award five $1,000 scholarships to members who demonstrate a desire to excel and reach their education goals.
“Part of the Women’s Committee’s mission is to educate and empower our members, and our scholarship program was borne out of that mission,” said Maggie Jenkins, President of the Women’s Committee.
The Women’s Committee brings together representatives from each Joint Council 25 affiliate across Chicago, Illinois and northwest Indiana to strengthen communication and leadership opportunities for women throughout the union.
All applicants must be Women’s Committee members and Teamster members in good standing and must be enrolled or enrolling in an undergraduate college, university or community college program, graduate school or technical or vocational program. Women and men are eligible to apply. Additionally, applicants must submit an essay on the topic: “Based on your personal experience as a Teamster member, what would you say to persuade a non-union worker to join the Teamsters?”
Completed applications and essays must be forwarded to the applicant’s local union for verification of Teamster membership, and the local union will submit the paperwork to the Women’s Committee. The deadline for applications is Feb. 5, 2016.
Scholarship recipients will be honored at the Women’s Committee’s Fourth Annual Gala Dinner Dance on Feb. 27, 2016, at the Penthouse Ballroom of the Holiday Inn Chicago O’Hare in Rosemont.
