| March 21, 2016

More than 100 Teamsters Local 727 members, officers, representatives and staff came together to discuss the good and welfare of the local union during the general membership meeting March 13.

Union business representatives reported on several grievance victories and contract negotiations, and President John Coli Jr. and organizer Donaldo Leiva discussed the union’s ongoing SCR organizing campaign.

“We are working with the International and Joint Council 25 to help bring crucial union representation to hundreds of paratransit drivers at SCR,” Coli said. “We’ve experienced tremendous growth in this industry over the last couple years, with organizing victories at CDT, MV Transportation and First Transit, and we are continuing the push to improve working standards for paratransit drivers throughout the Chicago area.”

Additionally, the Local 727 legal department has about 50 cases slated for arbitration on a bevy of issues, and the Benefit Funds manager, communications director and director of referrals delivered reports.

Local 727 also bid farewell to business representative Aisha Hurston, who this week transferred to Teamsters Local 710. Business representative Vincent Blanco, who came on board at Local 727 in January, is taking over representation for the Coca-Cola Refreshments, Reyes/Great Lakes Coca-Cola Distribution and Pepsi bargaining units.

The next general membership meeting will be held at noon, Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the local union’s meeting hall, 1300 W. Higgins Road, Suite 114, Park Ridge, IL 60068. Pastries and coffee will be served, and prizes will be raffled.
