MV Division 135 Bends to Demands of Members: July 2nd Strike Postponed
On Sunday, June 27th, MV Transportation Division 135 drivers, dispatchers, schedulers, payroll clerks, mechanics, and utility workers, all members of Teamsters Local 727, voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike against their employer, MV Transportation. This brave act of solidarity definitely sent a message loud and clear to the Company, who responded within days with an updated offer that includes improvements to Article 15 (Bidding) and finally addresses the mandatory overtime issue that has been a major concern for this group not only during this round of negotiations, but for years. Due to this turn of events, the strike has been postponed and the group will have the opportunity to vote on the Company’s latest offer.
MV’s previous offer gave substantial wage increases to a majority of the drivers as well as increases for some, but not all, of the other non-driving positions under the CBA. This latest offer made improvements to groups that had been left out of their previous offer, namely dispatch and B mechanics.
Members will have the opportunity to vote on this offer, tentatively scheduled for Sunday, July 11th. Details to follow.
“I am so proud of this group for coming together they way they did and showing their employer what solidarity looks like,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 727. “This is another great example of 727 members being ‘Teamster Strong’ and it demonstrates the power that a bargaining unit has when they come together to fight for what is right.”
