Benefit Improvement to the Local 727 Legal and Educational Assistance Fund

| May 4, 2018

Teamsters Local 727 is pleased to inform you that the Trustees of the Local 727 Legal and Educational Assistance Fund have announced an improvement to its educational assistance benefits. Effective immediately, participant eligibility for educational assistance benefits will not end if a participant is on a documented disability leave of absence from covered employment.

This change allows participants in the Fund who are disabled during the school year to continue coverage under that Fund. Please note that participants will be required to provide documentation of the disability to the satisfaction of the Trustees of the Fund.

The Local 727 Legal and Educational Assistance Fund provides reimbursement of certain educational expenses (tuition, mandatory fees and text books) to participants covered under this Fund. Please note that you participate in this Fund only if your employer is required to contribute to this Fund pursuant to your collective bargaining agreement. Other eligibility rules also apply.

Eligible Fund participants may seek reimbursement of up to $10,000 for themselves and/or eligible dependents, including unmarried dependent children 27 or under, for qualifying expenses incurred as a full-time student at an accredited college or university. The Trustees have allocated $3,000,000.00 for reimbursement to participants for the 2017-18 school year.

Applications for benefits should be available beginning June 1, 2018 and must be returned to the Fund’s office with all other required documents no later than September 4, 2018. It is important that you contact the Teamsters Local 727 Legal and Educational Assistance Fund at (773) 685-0340 for more information on this program. The Fund office is located at 1300 W. Higgins Rd., Suite 103, Park Ridge, IL 60068. Office hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Please note that the above information is only a brief description of the Fund’s eligibility requirements. For complete details, or to find out if you participate in this Fund, please contact the Fund’s office.
