Local 727 Agrees to Court Order to Continue Safeguarding Navy Pier

| May 26, 2017

In the interest of public safety, Teamsters Local 727 on Friday, May 26 agreed to a court order in Chicago to continue to safeguard Navy Pier.

Forty-three Local 727 members who serve as security, fire and safety officers at Navy Pier have been engaged in an unfair labor practice strike against Allied Universal since May 18. Allied is the new security management contractor hired by Navy Pier Inc.

The bargaining unit on strike against Allied is made up of men and women who’ve dedicated their lives to public safety and protecting the millions of Chicago residents and global tourists who flock to Navy Pier each year. The veteran officers will continue to picket and peacefully stand up for their rights, while demanding recognition of their negotiated wages and benefits.

“No members or representatives of Local 727 have broken the law during this strike, and we don’t intend to,” said John Coli Jr., President of Local 727. “We have no issue agreeing to the court order that our members will continue to follow the law. The narrow temporary restraining order is simply a repetition of the law itself.”

Allied is seeking to replace long-term security professionals represented by Local 727 at Navy Pier with workers earning up to 40 percent less than Local 727 members. Management also intends to eliminate pensions and increase the out-of-pocket cost for health insurance for the security workforce.

Local 727 has agreed to the terms included in following court order:
