First Transit Chicago Bargaining Update – John Coli, Jr. Addresses PACE Board of Directors About Wage Disparity between First Transit Locations
On January 18th, John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 727, addressed PACE’s Board of Directors during their monthly meeting at the PACE Suburban headquarters in Arlington Heights. During his remarks, Coli informed the Board of the disparity in pay between First Transit drivers who perform the same work at different locations. Coli also informed the Board that First Transit Chicago’s wages are not only out of sync with other First Transit locations, but with their competitors – all of whom have PACE contracts – as well. Click here to read Coli’s full statement. Since the Union’s last bargaining update, First Transit Chicago has yet to fully respond to the Union’s December 9th formal request for information. Although the company did respond to the request in part, they have yet to produce any information which would support their claims that PACE has refused to give them more money. Interestingly, information provided by the company shows their current failure to hire more employees in order to appropriately staff their locations. There are currently no upcoming dates for negotiations. The Union will continue to update membership as bargaining progresses.
