Union Reiterates Osco Pharmacists’ Core Demands on Final Day of Bargaining
The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee opened the last day of negotiations with Osco management Friday by reiterating pharmacists’ core non-economic demands: tech hours/overlap, coverage, part-timers’ benefits, job postings and floaters’ geographic restrictions.
“As we’ve said repeatedly, we’re trying to focus on the areas pharmacists said they want to be addressed,” said John T. Coli, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “We are hopeful that Osco management will finally listen to pharmacists’ concerns so we can reach a fair agreement. But no matter what happens, this local union will do whatever it takes to support our members.”
The Local 727 Bargaining Committee presented the company with the attached non-economic and economic proposals, which address pharmacists’ biggest concerns. These are the union’s only remaining proposals.

“We made movement and narrowed our focus because time is running out,” Coli said.
Additionally, Local 727 representatives today filed the necessary documents with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters to approve strike benefits for Osco pharmacists in the event of a labor dispute.
Through five negotiation meetings between the Local 727 Bargaining Committee and Osco management, little progress has been made toward reaching an agreement on a new contract for about 500 Chicago-area Osco pharmacists. The current three-year contract is set to expire May 7.
Teamsters Local 710 also has urged its Jewel warehouse and transportation workers to support Osco pharmacists in the event of a labor dispute. The workers’ recently ratified contract includes new language that allows them to honor any picket line involving Jewel-Osco employees.
