Teamsters Work to Establish Safe Return-to-Work Policies for Motion Picture Division

| June 11, 2020
Representatives of Teamsters along with IATSE, SAG-AFTRA, DGA and other producing entities and guilds have drafted a set of recommended return-to-work policies and safety protocols for motion pictures, television, and streaming productions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The “white paper” document is the resulting product and can be found here. The policies and guidance found in this document intend to provide a safe working environment for members, as well as the general public, so that productions can safely resume as quickly as possible across the U.S. The white paper recommendations are meant to work hand-in-hand with local reopening frameworks already established by public health authorities.
Notable provisions include recommendations on:
  • Infection Control: diagnostic testing, PPE, hand hygiene, disinfection and maintenance for different departments, switching from paper to electronic documents where possible, new craft services protocol, and physical distancing;
  • Duration of workdays;
  • Creation of a COVID-19 Compliance Officer;
  • Daily Symptom Monitoring;
  • Paid sick leave policy;
Additional conversations will be occurring between Unions and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers regarding specific departmental protocols; any impact additional recommendations may have on individual collective bargaining agreements will be discussed prior to further recommendations.
Members with questions should contact Lead Business Agent, Melissa Senator at 847-696-7500.
Nothing in this article should be read as the union’s waiver of any legal argument, position or grievance(s), or as a waiver of any rights, arguments, or defenses under any contract, collective bargaining agreement, or applicable law. The union does not forfeit its right to make any and all supplemental arguments.
