727 Members Celebrate Union Triumphs with Tacos at May Meeting
Secretary-Treasurer John Coli Jr. updated Teamsters Local 727 members on contracts, grievances, arbitrations, and other union business during the Union Membership Meeting on May 20, 2018.
The membership was updated on Union victories in May, including Region 13 of the National Labor Relations Board issuing a complaint against CC Traffic for the Company’s refusal to recognize and bargain with the Union. Additionally, members were informed of the updated amount Reliable Valet and River North Parking are ordered to pay for their violation of the collective bargaining agreement. For his companies’ failure to remit Union dues and their failure to pay employees for unused PTO, owner Jack Kupiec must now pay a total of $452,121.70.
Funeral Industry members were also asked to mark their calendars for the upcoming Continuing Education Seminar that has been scheduled for June 13, 2018. Information on speakers can be found on the C.E. Seminar Registration Form.
Secretary-Treasurer Coli also provided updates on the status of contract negotiations between the Union and Dr Pepper. Members were informed of the affirmative vote for the authorization of an Unfair Labor Practice Strike, as well as the later vote held prior to the Membership Meeting in which members of the Outside Dr Pepper bargaining unit voted to reject the Company’s last, best, and final offer.
“The Union’s bargaining committee has worked tirelessly over the last few months for a fair contract. Management hasn’t been holding up their end to lawfully bargain in good faith,” said Coli. “The vote to authorize an unfair labor practice strike is a message to Dr Pepper—the Union will not tolerate unlawful behavior.”
Secretary-Treasurer Coli also announced that the Union would pay the first week of strike benefits for the more than 150 Drivers.
[UPDATE: Delivery drivers for The American Bottling Company, a subsidiary of Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc., initiated the ULP Strike that is ongoing. Members can support their fellow Teamsters by Boycotting Dr Pepper products.]
Finally, Local 727 members voted to suspend the monthly membership meetings for the summer months of June, July, and August and proceeded to enjoy a delicious taco picnic provided by the Union.
The next general membership meeting will be held at noon on Sunday, September 30, 2018, in the Local 727 meeting hall, 1300 W. Higgins Road, Suite 114, Park Ridge, IL. Pastries and coffee will be served and prizes will be raffled.
