Union Sends Osco Pharmacists Mail Ballots; Local 727 Bargaining Committee Urges Members to Vote ‘Against Contract’

| June 20, 2016

The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee spent several months and countless hours negotiating with Osco management on a new contract. The union and the Bargaining Committee made every effort to communicate with pharmacists throughout the process by issuing bargaining updates via email, OscoTeamsters.com and TeamstersLocal727.org and store visits. Based on pharmacists’ feedback, the Local 727 Bargaining Committee presented its final offer to the company on June 14. In response, the company presented its offer, which pharmacists will now vote on via mail ballot.

Osco’s last offer fails to address pharmacists’ concerns. The company’s proposal would require pharmacists to pay $32.98-$267.49 more per month in health care premiums than Jewel-Osco warehouse employees for the exact same insurance plan. Osco’s proposal for wage increases are 25 percent less than the last contract’s increases. The company also proposed a wage freeze for all graduate non-registered pharmacists and pharmacy students. This last offer by the Company is lower than CVS and Walgreens’ total compensation packages.

The Local 727 Bargaining Committee strongly urges pharmacists vote “AGAINST CONTRACT.”

Ballots were mailed to Osco pharmacists on June 20. Please note that this vote is not a strike vote and is only a vote to accept or reject the company’s last offer.

Pharmacists will receive a copy of the company’s last offer, a comprehensive summary of the changes, a comparison chart of union and company proposals, a comparison chart of compensation for Osco, CVS and Walgreens, a ballot and a stamped return envelope. To vote, simply mark your ballot, place it in the pre-paid envelope and drop it in the mail. Pharmacists are encouraged to return ballots as soon as possible to ensure they are counted.

Ballots must be received no later than 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, to be counted. The ballot count will take place at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the local union’s meeting hall, 1300 W. Higgins Road, Suite 114, Park Ridge, IL 60068. Members are welcome to come and observe the ballot count.
