Union and First Transit Successfully Reach Multiple Tentative Agreements in First Negotiation Sessions

| July 26, 2018

Teamsters Local 727 and First Transit, Inc opened negotiations for the first collective bargaining agreement covering University of Chicago employees on July 18 and July 19, 2018.  Following an initial presentation of contract proposals, the Union and First Transit have reached tentative agreements on several non-economic provisions.

The Local 727 bargaining committee has successfully negotiated the inclusion of the following provisions in the First Transit University of Chicago collective bargaining agreement:

  • Language protecting members’ jobs and preventing employees from discipline or termination without “just cause.”
  • A grievance procedure, including the possibility of arbitration, to address disciplinary and employment disputes.
  • Guarantee that Driver Bids will be set as close to 40 hours as possible (as service schedules allow).
  • Employees required to present a valid CDL license upon request. In the event a driver cannot provide a valid license, the Company has the right to suspend a driver UP TO 30 days.  During any suspension, the employer may, at its own discretion, allow the employee to do other work at the facility if available.

All outstanding economic proposals are scheduled to be addressed at the Parties’ next meeting on August 2, 2018.
