On September 14, Teamsters Local 727 held its final paratransit cookout of the summer for National Express d/b/a CDT members. It was a fabulous turnout, as hundreds of hungry Teamsters lined up throughout the day to enjoy grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers and turkey burgers before starting or upon completing their shifts.

10-year employee Dana Jackson said she was a having a “great time” and wanted to express her gratitude toward the Union and, in particular, business representative Donnie Von Moore for helping her return to work after an unjust termination. “The Union has been wonderful and especially Donnie for taking good care of me and helping me get my job back,” Jackson said.

Jackson’s colleague Diego Rico echoed her sentiments, saying things “improved at work once the Union came on board in 2014.”

“We’re proud to be able to represent so many hardworking employees,” said John Coli Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “Like all our paratransit members, they work extremely hard in providing a vital service to their communities and don’t always receive the recognition they deserve. This cookout is one small way of showing our appreciation.”

In addition to the grilled fare, employees received member demand sheets to fill out in preparation for next year’s contract talks. They also received handouts of the latest news stories and were provided an opportunity to sign up to receive information specific to National Express d/b/a CDT members.

Local 727 represents 800 National Express d/b/a CDT members.
