New Gallup Poll Shows Union Approval is at a Near 50-Year High

| August 30, 2019

A recent poll conducted by Gallup has shown that Americans’ approval of labor unions has nearly reached a 50-year high.

According to Gallup:

“Sixty-four percent of Americans approve of labor unions, surpassing 60% for the third consecutive year and up 16 percentage points from its 2009 low point. This comes 125 years after President Grover Cleveland signed a law establishing the Labor Day holiday after a period of labor unrest in the U.S.

The current 64% reading is one of the highest union approval ratings Gallup has recorded over the past 50 years, topped only in March 1999 (66%), August 1999 (65%) and August 2003 (65%) surveys.”

“For years, Big Business has tried to limit the power of unions just so it can save a buck and pocket more profits; nevertheless, we stood strong together and pushed forward.  This poll shows our persistence has paid off, we are turning the tide and the average American is realizing all that can be accomplished through Union solidarity,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727, “Local 727 will continue to push harder than ever to organize workers and grow our Union, for it is through our solidarity that we have the power to fight for justice, fairness, and respect.”
