MV Loyola Members Overwhelmingly Ratify New CBA with Wage Increases, Enhanced PTO, and Improved Health Care Options

| October 16, 2019

Exactly five weeks after authorizing an unfair labor practice strike, Teamsters Local 727 members employed by MV Transportation’s Loyola Division overwhelmingly ratified a successor collective bargaining agreement last Wednesday, October 9.

“I am very proud of our MV Loyola members for standing together, even in the face of a potential ULP strike,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727.  “The Union bargaining committee was able to negotiate a strong agreement because these men and women were unwavering in their solidarity and demand for respect.”

Among the top achievements of the Local 727 bargaining committee was the successful negotiation of substantial annual wage raises.  All current members of the MV Loyola bargaining unit will have their hourly wages increased a minimum of 17.5% beginning on the date of the CBA’s ratification.  This significant increase will be followed by additional hourly wage raises in each subsequent year of the contract.  Over the term of the new agreement, the starting wage rate for trainees will also be increased to a record-high $15.00 per hour.

Additionally, the newly ratified CBA includes significant paid time off improvements.  Eligible full-time MV Loyola employees will receive, for the very first time, seven paid holidays and, effective January 1, 2020, one or more paid personal days each anniversary year.  Full-time employees will also now begin accruing two weeks of paid vacation following three years of service, two years earlier than previously stipulated.  Local 727 was also successful in securing an additional third week of paid vacation for members with four or more years of service who are employed full-time.

The Union’s successor agreement with MV Loyola also introduces new health care options for members.  Effective July 1, 2022, two more affordable health care options will become available to MV Loyola employees, a High Deductible Plan and a Buy-Up Plan, which will help to ease the burden of health care costs from Local 727 members’ shoulders.

“This strong agreement is a prime example of what can be achieved when Teamsters stand united,” added Coli.  “Local 727 looks forward to continuing to support all of our MV members.”
