MV Division 135 Bends to Demands of Members: Contract Ratified by Group

| July 13, 2021
On July 11th, MV Transportation Division 135 drivers, dispatchers, schedulers, payroll clerks, mechanics, and utility workers voted overwhelmingly to ratify a successor agreement. This ratification followed a brave act of solidarity in which the group voted to authorize a strike – primarily over the issue of mandatory overtime – which sent a message loud and clear to the Company who quickly changed course.
The new contract includes:
  • Significant raises up to four dollars an hour
  • A twenty dollar starting rate for drivers – currently the highest in the industry
  • Ratification bonuses for some of the most tenured employees in the group
  • Retro pay for all bargaining unit members from July 1st
  • The mandatory overtime rule being eliminated for 66% of the drivers – setting a new industry standard by introducing fixed vs. variable route bidding categories.
“This group was brave enough to tell their employer what they wanted and what they would be willing to strike over,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 727. “In exchange for that bravery, they were able to change a practice that up until the group authorized a strike, MV would not even acknowledge, as well as gain significant improvements to their CBA. This is collective bargaining at its finest.”
This contract will be in effect through June 30, 2024.
