MV 422 Workers are One Step Closer to Teamster Representation, Local 727 Files Petition for Representation Election

| April 1, 2019

Yesterday, Teamsters Local 727 filed a petition for an election with the National Labor Relations Board on behalf of more than 100 MV Transportation, Inc. drivers and aides.  The petition was filed after an overwhelming majority of the MV Chicago 422 CPS Division drivers expressed interest in being represented by Local 727.

The NLRB will next review the Union’s petition and reach out to the employer in the hopes of reaching an agreement on the date and time for the election.  Eligible MV Chicago 422 Division employees will then have the opportunity to vote in a secret ballot election to select Local 727 as their sole collective bargaining representative.

“The drivers and aides of the MV 422 Division are charged with caring for some of the most vulnerable children in our communities.  Local 727 looks forward to using our years of experience and vast achievements in the transit industry to ensure the daily contributions of these men and women are recognized by their employer,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727.  “We hope all MV 422 Division workers will vote ‘Yes’ in favor of Local 727 representation so we can stand together to fight for fair wages, strong benefits, and respect.”

Local 727 has worked tirelessly for more than a decade to organize Chicago’s paratransit workers and elevate and transform the region’s transportation industry standards.  The Union currently represents hundreds of drivers at MV Transportation, First Transit, Ride Right, and Cook DuPage Transportation locations throughout the Chicago area.

Local 727 will inform MV 422 Division employees as soon as a date for the election has been set.  Anyone with questions should contact Local 727 organizer Don Leiva at (773) 331-1432 or [email protected].

Nothing in this article should be read as the union’s waiver of any legal argument, position or additional grievance. The union does not forfeit its right to make any and all supplemental arguments.
