Local 727 Pepsi Bargaining Committee Secures Important Protections, Turns Full Attention to Major Economic Issues

| April 28, 2016

The Teamsters Local 727 Bargaining Committee secured tentative agreements on several of the membership’s most important non-economic issues as negotiations with Pepsi management continued Thursday night.

“This is our chance to change the culture, and we’re doing that,” said John T. Coli, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “We haven’t given a single concession, and we’re not going to give them anything.”

Tentative agreements have been reached on the following:

  • Annual shift bids and job classification bids
  • Significant restrictions on company’s use of Blue Card employees
  • Elimination of the company’s use of temps/seasonals
  • Employees can honor picket lines for Mechanics’ Local 701 and Teamsters Local 673
  • Sanitation workers will not be scheduled to run production on first or second shift unless OT is required
  • The company will provide training opportunities twice annually

The Local 727 Bargaining Committee also reiterated that the newly agreed upon Employee Relations Committee composed of union representatives, stewards and company reps will meet quarterly to address any and all other issues that arise.

Now, the Local 727 Bargaining Committee has turned its full attention to the major economic issues that are still outstanding, including wages, benefits and sick leave.

“We’re saving our bullets for the important stuff, and sick days is one of those things,” Coli said.

Teamsters Local 727 will continue to update the membership as negotiations continue.
