Union Bargaining Committee Recommends You Vote “For Contract

After a full day of tough negotiations on Tuesday, November 13th, the Teamsters Local 727 bargaining committee and Cook DuPage Transportation, a subsidiary of National Express, have reached a tentative agreement on a new one-year collective bargaining agreement.

“While this negotiation process was long, the Union bargaining committee ultimately succeeded in negotiating a one-year deal that encompasses nearly all of our CDT members’ demands,” stated John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 727.

Some of the top highlights of the tentative agreement include:

NON-ECONOMIC

  • Drivers not required to transport abusive passengers or customers who refuse to wear proper safety restraints.
  • Vehicles will be clean and free of infestations.
  • Guaranteed rebid of all schedules by seniority following the Company’s facility change.  8-hour opportunities must be included for D-Van drivers, unless the Company can demonstrate that 8-hour shifts are not operationally possible.
  • Modified attendance policy which includes a two-minute grace period and allows for a more frequent roll-off of attendance points and discipline.
  • Before the new attendance policy is implemented, all current employees will have their attendance points reset to zero.
  • CDT shall supply employees with no fewer than 5 uniform shirts.  Drivers may choose a short-sleeve or long-sleeve shirt, or combination of both, when they are issued a new shirt.  CDT will also provide employees with a cap and safety vest.  If an employee forgets their safety vest, the employee shall have the ability to borrow a vest for the day.  Inside employees shall be allowed to wear work appropriate personal caps and jackets.
  • Enhanced Job Protections & Grievance Procedure
  • An improved light duty program.

ECONOMIC

  • Wage increases at or above industry standards. (WAGE TABLES WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE RATIFICATION VOTE MEETING.)
  • Elimination of 4 and Go’s.  Employees who arrive to work within two minutes of their scheduled start-time will receive a guaranteed 8 hours of pay (or a guaranteed 10 hours of pay if the employee is scheduled to work a 10 hour shift).
  • All employees shall receive 5 combined sick/personal days.  Eligible employees may receive up to an additional 2 sick/personal days.
  • All drivers will be entitled to a 30-minute paid lunch break.
  • $10,000 life insurance and long-term disability paid for by the Company.
  • Freeze on the current healthcare premiums for all employees who complete a biometric screening.
  • Enhanced dental and vision insurance.
  • 100% match on the first 3% of employee contributions and 50% of the next 2% of employee contributions to the Company’s 401(k).
  • Employees shall vest immediately in the Company’s 401(k).

A comprehensive list of all tentatively agreed contract proposals will be available to members at the contract ratification vote.
