Join Local 727 for Rally at Union Park on International Workers’ Day

| April 12, 2017

Monday, May 1, 2017, marks International Workers’ Day around the world. Here in Chicago, the day is being honored with a rally at Union Park beginning at 1:00 p.m. We’re asking all our Teamster brothers and sisters to attend so our presence can be felt by the powers-that-be in the city, state and nationally.

“May Day is a wonderful opportunity to make our voices heard loud and clear,” said John Coli Jr., President of Teamsters Local 727. “A large turnout at Union Park will ensure that those in power know we stand united against discrimination of any kind and that unfair treatment of workers will not be tolerated.”

The rally and subsequent march through downtown Chicago will be focused on protecting communities that are under attack by the Trump administration and highlight the need to:

  • Stop the criminalization, mass incarceration and deportation of Black, Latino, migrant, Arab, Muslim, and communities of color;
  • Defend workers’ right to organize, unionize and to earn a living wage;
  • Defend the rights of women, people with disabilities, transgender, LGBTQ and gender non-conforming people;
  • Act on climate change, to create jobs and economic opportunities in the migrant, poor, and communities of color that are disproportionately threatened by pollution and climate change;
  • Defend and fully fund public services, including public education, transportation, and health care.

Union Park is located at 1501 W. Randolph St. at the intersection of Ashland Ave. in Chicago. Directions to Union Park can be found here.
