Hinckley Springs Inside Workers Ratify New 5-Year Contract

| August 9, 2017

Teamsters Local 727 and Hinckley Springs recently ratified a new five-year contract that guarantees a 2% wage increase each year beginning in 2018. The Union was successful in negotiating a five-year deal despite the company’s preference for a three-year deal. Employees will also receive a $1,000 bonus in the first full pay period after execution of the contract.

“It was important to the Union that the members be made whole for the increase cost of healthcare over the life of the last contract,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “And I am proud to report that 727 was able to achieve that for the members.”

In addition to wage increases, members are able to maintain from the previous contract their allotment of holidays and sick days as well as caps and restrictions on temporary employees. No temporary employees will be utilized if an employee is on layoff. Inside workers will also have the ability to honor the picket line of outside employees, and will have an easier and more streamlined grievance procedure with an expanded timeline to file grievances. Plus, they will receive enhanced job protections due to the requirement of discipline for just cause and limited drug testing.

There will also be the new requirement that the company conduct individual meetings with each employee in connection with health insurance enrollment to provide an individualized assessment of health insurance plans offered and their relative costs. Finally, the company must offer the same healthcare to bargaining unit employees as it does to non-bargaining unit employees (e.g. mgmt.).

“I want to commend the bargaining committee for its hard work,” Coli said. “It wasn’t easy but in the end, we came out with a very strong contract.”

The contract extends from August 1, 2017 through May 15, 2022.
