Secretary-Treasurer John Coli Jr. updated the membership on contracts, grievances, arbitrations and other union business during Teamsters Local 727’s general meeting on October 29, 2017.

In the last month, Local 727 negotiated and ratified new contracts with TKO Installations and Lagunitas Brewing.

Membership also heard from a special guest speaker, retired Illinois Representative Edward J. Acevedo. Acevedo, who is working to get on the ballot to run against Tom Dart for Cook County Sheriff, is a strong union supporter, having served as a Chicago Police Officer for 20 years. “I come from a union family,” said Acevedo. “Union members are what this great country is made of.”

When it comes to voting in next year’s elections, Secretary-Treasurer Coli asked members to remember the Cook County commissioners who supported the repeal of the beverage tax.

“The soda tax repeal was a big win for us and protects good-paying union careers in the beverage industry. We have to remember those commissioners, like John Fritchey, who stood with the Teamsters from the very beginning,” Coli said.

Members also had an opportunity to receive free flu shots both before and after the meeting. The shots were administered by Local 727 Osco Steward Laura Lucafo.

The next general membership meeting will be held at noon on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at the Local 727 meeting hall, 1300 W. Higgins Road, Suite 114, Park Ridge, IL. Pastries and coffee will be served, and prizes will be raffled.
