Amazon’s Top Shopping Day is a Prime Day for Labor Action

| July 18, 2018

For the past forty-eight hours, Amazon workers across Spain, Germany, and Poland have engaged in strikes to protest the e-commerce giant’s refusal to renew collective bargaining agreements, poor wages, and unhealthy working conditions throughout the Company’s European manufacturing facilities.

Coinciding with the tech company’s made-up “Prime Day” holiday, thousands of employees participated in labor actions, including “slow-down” strikes, walking off the job, and large-scale public rallies, to demand Amazon bargain in good faith with local unions and take immediate steps to improve working conditions.

“Teamsters Local 727 is proud to stand in solidarity with the brave men and women in Spain, Germany, and Poland who are standing up to demand what is just and fair,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “As Teamsters, we understand just how hard it is to be forced to take to the strike line. Their struggle, is our struggle. We will stand behind them in their fight.”
