Union and First Transit DuPage Begin Contract Negotiations on a Positive Note

| August 11, 2017

Teamsters Local 727 and First Transit DuPage commenced negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement on Monday, August 7 and again on Tuesday, August 8. The talks were productive, as the parties found agreement on several non-economic issues.

The parties reached a tentative agreement on the following:

  • Drivers will no longer be required or scheduled to begin driving during their pre-trip time
  • The company will reimburse employees for any MVR checks
  • Employees will have the ability to bid on vacation from December 1 – December 15 of each year
  • Drivers may be required to work no more than one hour before and/or after their shift
  • Lunches will now be given after the third hour of work or no later than the fifth hour of work

“We’re pleased that the parties were able to reach tentative agreement on a number of important issues,” said John Coli, Jr., Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “There is still much work ahead of us, but the Union will stand firm on its positions to secure the best possible contract for our members.”

The Union also presented an aggressive economic offer and made it clear to management that they will need to give substantially better raises than in the previous contract.

Negotiations are scheduled to resume on September 11 and 12.
