Teamsters Local 727 Reaches Resolution with SP Plus over COVID Furloughs

| May 28, 2021

As you all know, when the COVID-19 Pandemic hit Chicago, hundreds of your Union brothers and sisters who work for SP Plus were furloughed. Upon notice of the furloughs, your Union acted swiftly and immediately filed Unfair Labor Practice Charges and a class action grievance against SP Plus. The class action grievance and ULP charge were ultimately heard by an Arbitrator over the course of two days of hearing in March.

The Union is pleased to announce that, prior to the conclusion of the arbitration hearing, it was able to reach a mutually agreeable resolution with SP Plus over the disputes that arose concerning COVID-19. The resolution covers all SP Plus bargaining unit employees who were furloughed during the pandemic.

Notice and important details on the resolution will be sent separately to SP Plus members within the coming days. It is very important that SP Plus members contact the Union if they have not received the notices sent out by the Union by June 7, 2021 as it includes important deadlines that members must adhere to pursuant to the agreement reached with SP Plus.

“This was a long and hard-fought victory and I am proud of each and every bargaining unit member who has stood strong during these unpredictable times. I want to thank everyone at 727 who made this victory possible and I also want to thank SP Plus for working with the Union to reach agreement,” said John Coli, Jr. Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 727.
