Joint Council 58 Assessing Member Needs, Local 988 Preparing Staging Area
(Washington) – International Brotherhood of Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa has directed international union staff to provide all necessary support to members impacted by Hurricane Harvey and the resulting floods.

“The Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund has been front and center for our members during times of crisis,” Hoffa said. “Whether on the Gulf Coast for Hurricane Katrina, the East Coast for Hurricane Sandy or the countless other natural disasters that have impacted our members, the Teamsters Union has been there for our brothers and sisters.”

Robert Mele, Joint Council 58 President and Local 988 President, is currently assessing the best ways that the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund, Joint Councils and Local Unions can provide support to our members and retirees affected by this unprecedented storm. Local 988 is preparing a staging area for disaster relief supplies at the union hall and will be providing meals to members and retirees in the coming days.

In the meantime, Joint Councils, Local Unions and individuals can make donations directly to the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund and the funds will be earmarked for assistance to members impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Credit card contributions can be made by going to Teamster’s Disaster Relief webpage, here. Checks can be directed as follows:
